The civil war in Yemen has disproportionately harmed civilians on a scale that we have rarely seen, and it has happened in almost complete obscurity to the western world. Some facts:
•the @who has reported that the cholera outbreak in Yemen is now THE WORST IN HISTORY, with almost 1 million infected. Children under five account for a quarter of all cases. @savethechildren has warned that, at the current rate of infection, the number of cases will reach seven figures before the turn of the year, 60% of which will be among children.
•Yemen is on the verge of an historic famine: Mark Lowcock, the @unitednations under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs, warned "it will be the largest famine the world has seen for many decades, with MILLIONS of victims".
•currently the government of Saudi Arabia along with its allies (including the US & UK) is enforcing a blockade against humanitarian aid entering the country.
•Let me be very clear: i am not here to advocate a specific diplomatic or military path, i’m here to advocate for the end of the suffering of the Yemeni people, regardless of political or religious affiliation. Please read up and spread the word.
