I was working in some neighborhoods of Caracas on teenage pregnancy as part of the TEEN MOM project.
In Latin America, the high rates of teenage pregnancy are narrowly related to violence against girls. Currently, the severe shortage of medicines in Venezuela represents a barrier to access contraceptive pills. People who resell these pills are the "bachaqueros", a term used in Venezuela that refers to the person that illegally traffics essential goods. The lack of access to methods of contraception is one of the causes of teenage pregnancy.
