@FransLanting While tracking cheetahs in Kenya for @ナショナルジオグラフィック, I got to know a coalition of three brothers known as Honey’s Boys who hunted in a portion of the Maasai Mara visited by many tourists. These males grew up in public and have been photographed countless times. They acted like stars—and they were. When one of them bounded up the trunk of a magnificent fig tree to look out over the plains I maneuvered myself to silhouette the cheetah against the sky for a graphic juxtaposition of cat and tree. Even on the celebrated Serengeti Plains, cheetahs are rare. While there are several thousand lions, fewer than three hundred cheetahs manage to survive.
