While most photographers many colleagues are interested in the fallow deer rutting season to watch the spectacular battles, I visit the deer in this period because of their lack of fear for humans. While they usually run away at the sight of a me, their periodical one track mind reduces me to an important piece of furniture. Which gives me the chance to get close, very close, without disturbing them. And an opportunity to choose a nice position, the right light and the right model. So there I was. Calmly sitting in this pit, watching a male deer standing in the forest. The early sunlight, combined with the early morning cold, created a beautiful atmosphere and made the breath cloud visible. What a sight, what a calm….

And then, all of a sudden a second buck entered this beautiful fairytale like scene. They started to bellow, to scrape their hoofs and turn rounds together… The clattering of antlers was overpowering and came louder and louder. I almost stopped breathing when I realized HOW close they were….!
