Photo by @Cristina Mittermeier // To photograph this baby harp seal, I sheltered myself behind an ice block to withstand the powerful wind gusts that were peppering me with snow and ice. The baby, covered by a thick coat of pure white fur, seemed much warmer than myself. As for the mother, after she nursed her newborn for 12 days straight, without leaving even for eating, she finally headed back to sea. The biggest threat to these beautiful animals is the increasingly unpredictable and unstable sea ice on which they calf and nurse their pups. #Followme at @Cristina Mittermeier to see more amazing wildlife.
