Photo by @Cristina Mittermeier // While 30% of the coral reefs in the world have perished due to warning waters in the past few years, the Elk Horn coral reefs of Jardines de la Reina are thriving. Perhaps it is because the enormous area known as “The Gardens of the Queen” has been protected from fishing, ship traffic, pollution and other human impacts since the early 1990s or maybe it is just good luck. I would bet on the first and would encourage us all to stand up for marine protection. It provides enormous benefits both for our Ocean ecosystems and for human well-being.
