Susanne Court and her family lived in Limoges, central France in about 1600. They were famous for their skill in the difficult technique of painting enamel on copper. This enamel plate demonstrates Court’s rich gilding, jewel-like colours and pale flesh tones. It shows the story from Greek mythology of Apollo and the Muses on Mount Helicon.
