Sterling Ruby’s "Wall" (2017), is the first spray painting completed since 2015 by the artist. The 278 inch (706 cm) long painting is included in the exhibition “LA Invitational” at Gagosian West 24th Street, NYC closing tomorrow, December 16.
In the artist’s own words: “The desire to make paintings was an absolute reaction to seeing graffiti and territorial disputes writ large in the streets, almost as if a case study. I found it almost impossible to ignore my generation’s continued struggle to find ways to make a meaningful painting. I like to think that I have found a way to make spray paint abstract.” See this work in person, stop by the gallery before it’s too late!
