“Honesty and vulnerability are important when building connections on social media. The posts that are the most uncomfortable to share are often the ones that strike a chord with others because, at the end of the day, we’re all living messy, imperfect lives,” 29-year-old Jane Beaird tell us. “It’s so easy to convince yourself that your world should look like the curated ones you see online, but that’s just an edited fragment of one person’s life. At the end of the day, we’re all stumbling through, trying to do our best.” Jane, who runs the Instagram account @quietcreature, describes her aesthetic as whimsical, soft, joyful, light, and empowering — and it’s work that definitely resonates, as one of her illustrations, which was inspired by the #HandsOffMyBirthControl campaign, was shared by @womensmarch @Glamour Magazine and @plannedparenthood. Jane also was able to connect with Dr. Jessica Zucker, who runs @ihadamiscarriage; the two collaborated on art that helped break the stigma around pregnancy loss and grief.
