The quiet of the breath, the deep flow of the inner body, the silence of the spirit—this is practice, the deepest dimension of yoga. Not everyone will dive down to the bottom of the ocean of consciousness, but those who do will find the brilliance of the eternal shining back at them.

So much of the magic of yoga is internal and experiential. There’s a moment when years of hard work finally chop enough away at the rock of ego and defense and the light just pours through like a river or a mighty torrent. Wait for it. If you haven’t felt it yet, keep practicing.

No one can take those moments of ineffable peace away from you. No one can ever package it and sell it and wrap it up like an infomercial. It’s beyond the physical and material. And yet here you embodied and able to touch it, even if only for a momentary flicker in the sea of time.

Sometimes what’s missing in our practice and in our life is the ability to let all the love in. It’s like somewhere inside we desperately crave to be loved while simultaneously block ourselves from truly being loved. That twisted dilemma is one that each of has to work through in our own time. Yoga shines a little light on the places where you’re stuck so that you can begin the inner work of unraveling all those mental, emotional, spiritual and physical knots. The promise of this practice is not about handstands or weight loss or acceptance in a clique. The promise of this practice is about peace, true and lasting inner peace.
