Kicked off my grade 11 year of high school and released my first song with a major label. I was told not to worry if things took a while to “take off” and that it was normal to have a 3 month wait before radio might start playing the song. Within a couple weeks, “Shut Up and Dance” got picked up on stations across the country and became the most played song by a Canadian on radio for 9 weeks straight. I don’t think I truly realized, at the time, all that was happening. Thinking back, it feels crazy! I am so grateful to all the amazing people in radio that took a chance on that first song and helped make it what it was, and for all the love that Warner put into making it happen. Team work!
