My hubby’s words to me as we skated to center ice before accepting our gold medal. It is so hard to capture all of the feelings, thoughts, and emotions and channel them into one social media post... hoping that everyone will feel that magical moment just as you did or even take the time to read it.
I recognize how extremely emotional I was after our scores came up. It was not that I didn’t believe that we could win, or that I questioned our chances of becoming Olympians. I was so distraught. As much as I love the sport, fighting for my life and pushing myself against all odds to skate again paid off. I put myself in situations that I wouldn’t advise my own daughter to do. I lied to my team on days I felt I could push no more, and kept pushing. I hid my fears and insecurities from the world and put on a smile. It was the worst time of my life. Everyday I tried my best knowing that I would never forgive myself for giving up on my family’s dream. I was not going to let it be JUST a dream. For those who don’t always believe in yourself- it’s okay. You don’t need to. Instead, believe in those around you who tell you, “you can.” Those are the people to live for. Those are the ones you fight for. Family.
