It's been a year already since I released this song that changed my life. I wrote this after another song I co wrote had gone number one on billboard. It was a day where I should have been over the moon. My boyfriend at the time, who was also in music, was not so happy about it. It ate him up knowing that I had done something that he hadn't yet and instead of being happy for me, projected his insecurities onto me. It hurt so much. It hurt knowing that this person that I desperately loved couldn't even FAKE a smile for me that day. That this person I had started planning my life with could barely even look at me, All because I had accomplished something pretty amazing in my career. When I got to the studio I was visibility upset. I told the guys what happened and they comforted me and supported me the way someone that loves you, should. I had "issues" written down in my notes and I just thought, "how fitting". We wrote it in an hour. I knew exactly what I wanted to say and how I wanted it to live. Benny ordered champagne to the studio and we all celebrated the number one, and this song ?. When it came time to pitch it, I couldn't do it. I had put so many memories into this song and I was scared that someone wouldn't see it. They wouldn't see all the pain and the love and the frustration and the jumbled up emotions I had weaved into issues. And so I didn't. I kept it. And then gave it to you guys. And here I am a year later the happiest I've ever been. This song is one of the most important things to me. I want to say thank you to everyone that has connected to it, sang it out loud, listened to it over and over. It wouldn't be what it is today without you. And I want to say how grateful I am to @itsbennyblanco @ジャスティン・トランター @stargatemusic for helping me tell my story that day and for being incredible friends.
