NASA’s satellites from 2003 to 2010 testify that the hottest land surface temperature on Earth is located in this desert. The surface of its sand has been recently measured at 78.2 °C (172.8°F), the highest ever recorded. This image was shot in spring, when, on this day, the surface temperature “only" hovered around 55 C (131 F). This desert host flora and incredibly adaptable fauna such as lizards and foxes, which scientists are currently studying.
