For #blackhistorymonth we are honoring iconic fashion designer Stephen Burrows. He is known for being the first African-American designer to develop a mainstream, high-fashion clientele. He worked closely with luxury department store Henri Bendel and was the top designer worn by celebrities, models & more during New York City’s disco-scene of the 1970s. Chanel Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld once said about him: “When I think of American designer Stephen Burrows, I compare him to Madame Grès, they both work from their soul." #blackexcellence
