Meet today’s #WCW Jahana Hayes, 2016 National Teacher of the Year and shining example of how to educate our youth. Jahana grew up surrounded by poverty, drugs and violence, but her teachers as a child gave her hope and refused to give up on her… so decided to dedicate her life to the same path. Jahana went back to the same schools she grew up in as a teacher, and has been uplifting youth both in and outside the classroom ever since. She has shown students how take ownership of their community and get involved through volunteer work and fundraising projects. This empowerment she is giving to our next generation is setting us up for success.  She also has made it her mission to highlight the need for more teachers of color in schools nationwide. Students need to be able to see themselves in their teachers to develop trust, and Jahana has given them just that. To top off her greatness, she got recognized by President Obama for her outstanding work. Jahana - thank you for championing our youth and showing underprivileged children hope and inspiration.
