I am Nat Turner! I have been a slave my whole life. I was owned by a man named Benjamin Turner. When he died I became property of his son Samuel. It was against the law, but I learned to read and write at a very young age. I read the Bible every chance I could get. My religious convictions manifested as visions from God. I often preached to my fellow slaves which earned me the title of "the prophet". I also had white followers that believed in my voice. In 1831 it was decided that we as slaves had enough of the treatment waged upon us by our slaveowners. We Rebelled! There were about 70 men, free and enslaved that were apart of the rebellion. I wanted Justice for all of the wrongs that had been commited against me and all people of color. I was willing to die a free man than to live the rest of my life in servitude. I was captured on October 30, 1831 and sentened to death by hanging on November 5, 1831. My life came to an end on November 11th. Let my life serve as an example to anyone that no matter what race, color or Creed you are, social injustice must be fought and civil rights should be shared by all people. Whether you're born in this great country or you migrate here, you are American and you deserve equal protections under the law! Remember, back in these days it was not against the law to hang or kill a black person just as it wasn't illegal in Germany for Hitler to annihilate 6 million Jews. ? #resisttheunjust #equalityforeveryone #blackhistoryisamericanhistory #bhm
