Some more Sunday Listening—

This is the brand new MGMT album, which came out this past Friday. It’s called Little Dark Age.
MGMT is my favorite modern band, and has been since Congratulations. I like their first album too, but Congratulations saw them go in a really interesting and unexpected direction and it just clicked for me. I like every song on LDA, and there are two songs tied for my favorite, the title track, Little Dark Age, and the song Me And Michael, though TSLAMP is closing in as my next favorite.
It’s interesting to feel the way some people have told me they feel about past music I’ve been involved in, that it gets me through hard times and I really connect with it emotionally. Sure, I feel that way about a lot of bands I listened to growing up, like The Pixies and The Smiths and Iron Maiden, but there are not many modern bands I connect with in that way (and that’s ok!). I know there is a lot of great modern stuff out there, but I just feel like this stuff “gets me”. I draw a lot of inspiration from their work for much of my comic writing, especially Doom Patrol. MGMT also seem to be fans of body horror, strange organic materials, and fluids, which are all things that are my jam. I highly recommend this album, as well as all of their other albums.
