This formation is at the very end of the Rubies choreographed by George Balanchine. I love how the whole cast comes together then separates into cannons (dancers dancing one to several counts apart from each other). It can get confusing because the music, by Igor Stravinsky, has very complicated counts so you have to stay focused while looking effortless. The finale of Rubies might be my favorite part, there are certain iconic arms in the choreography that my coach Patricia McBride, who originated the role, added in and Balanchine liked them.
