It’s hard to believe it’s been four years since this life changing moment in Sochi. In some ways, it seems like yesterday. In others, it feels like a lifetime has passed. At 27, after nearly two decades in pursuit of our dream, I felt like I’d been through it all. Together, Charlie and I faced challenges, setbacks and disappointment, turning each into an opportunity for growth as we moved in the direction of the vision we had for ourselves. Even today, four years later, it’s impossible to adequately express my gratitude for the love and support we received along the way. Upon arriving back in the US, Charlie and I felt a warmth unlike ever before. To be so embraced by one’s countrymen is simply a feeling I will never forget. What’s more, though, are the ways in which we’ve felt encouraged, challenged, motivated and loved as we continue to embark on new adventures. To be an Olympian is the honor of a lifetime. To move forward and continue to push one’s self in new and unfamiliar territory is a necessary challenge. THANK YOU. Thank you for being there, for challenging us, for motivating us and growing with us. I hope we can continue to make you proud and represent the US to the best of our ability. Whether on the world’s largest stage or quietly and without applause, I hope for continued growth. Being an Olympian has taught me so much about life, philosophy and the resilience of the human spirit. Stepping away, I find that I am forced to know myself in a different light, a different way, a different life. As one does on a journey of athletic pursuit, I hope to grow better, stronger and more authentically myself with each new opportunity. Each new day. Each passing year. In times of triumph or in moments of defeat, I have learned that we ALWAYS have the chance to work towards the best version of ourselves. Thank you to those who continue to help us work towards that goal. As I watch these #Pyeongchang2018 Games, I’m so inspired and in awe of each athlete and his/her story.
