A shooting star is actually not a star at all, rather just a small piece of rock or dust that hits Earth’s atmosphere from space. It’s departure from space is so fast that is heats up and glows as it’s falling. Astronomers call these falling rocks #meteors and they usually burn up in the atmosphere before they reach the ground.
