I’ve been fortunate that for the most part social media has been a catalyst for beautiful connections and creativity. There are times however where it feels impersonal. And harsh. With a bit of edge from the armor of the screen. It can be tempting to quickly judge, assume & size up especially when the undercurrent of negativity, nitpicking, competition, angles and one upping flows in. I wonder what it would be like if we all were in each other’s actual presence. I wonder how much of the static would melt away. I shared these thoughts in my insta stories today but I wanted to share it here too. I think it’s a topic worth pondering in the light of moving towards grace and kindness.

My son inspired this with a pure and extremely moving gesture of his heart. He gave me an envelope with a note as shown in the photo along with money from his piggy bank. The note was written on the back of a coupon that was gifted to him for a free slice of pizza, so he was also giving that to me too. I asked him why he was giving me money and his coupon and he said, “Because I wanted to share it with you. You always teach me to do the right thing and I appreciate that. I love you. I’m so glad you’re my mommy.” I couldn’t even muster any words because there were no words worthy. But there were tears and hugs a plenty. And I can tell you that his kindness spoke volumes, moved mountains and taught me so much about life.

It’s really amazing how the seemingly smallest gesture of kindness can make all the difference in a person’s walk. We all are learning, growing, failing, overcoming, struggling, becoming. We all could use more grace and kindness, don’t you think? Wouldn’t you?
