This majestic Italian mountainscape shows the Tyrolean Alps near #Merano, birthplace of artist #RudolfStingel. Based on a historic crumpled black and white photograph, this is an unmistakably autobiographical painting; there’s an evocation of something lost, of an irrecoverable past. Untitled (2009) is the first landscape to come to auction from the artist and will star in our Contemporary Art Evening Sale on 7 March.
