Snow. I left that night and it startled me, that light. I first thought it was a car, maybe an accident just about to happen, but, instead, I turned my head toward a full moon coming off the top of Whistler. And into town the blue, green and white lights playing off the trees, deep flakes of crystals landing on my face as I walked through the ready made village looking for a bookstore and maybe some food. I’m solo up here. I’m 50. It’s maybe the greatest year of my life, when a peace overwhelms and you realize how small within it all you really are: listening to a child laugh off in the distance, sneaking a look of a snow leopard come out from its hiding, or just reading, bundled up, off this little balcony, deeply moved at what’s in store. Icing. Lots of lots of icing.
