Last week, after almost a decade out West, I moved back to the Midwest. I have been a professional climber for the last ten years, since winning my first World Cup in 2008 at 19. Then I won another World Cup, climbed a bunch of V11’s and V12’s, did some SKETCHY highballs (#sorrymom!) Fast forward a few years and I was feeling stagnant. Now what? “Reinvent” myself as a climber and suddenly start climbing trad? That isn’t me. I did everything I thought I wanted to do as a climber to leave my mark, but something has been missing. I’ve always had a hard to being SOSTOKED on climbing year round, and have craved more. I wanted to actually contribute to something. Last July I got a call from an old friend willing to take a chance on me that got me thinking about the direction I could go in. Then in December I got a call from the gym I grew up in; another opportunity. I could have a stable career...I could be close to my family (free dog sitters!)...I could utilize all the knowledge and experience I’ve learned in the last 20 years as a competitive climber. So I said yes. It's official: I’m the new head coach of the competitive climbing team at Vertical Endeavors. Here’s to the future and living in the Mini Apple. ? Bring it on. :) ❄️
