Filling two needs with one deed for today's post; one can't help but reflect on what's been and what's next for British music.⠀ ⠀ One of our favourite contemporary covers from NME, released shortly after Amy left us in 2011. This week is actually the 10 year anniversary of Back to Black Deluxe reaching No.1. The album was first released in 2006- but initially did not quite hit the charts the way it did when it was re-released two years later. It's now regarded as one of the best albums of it's decade, and was one of the fastest selling albums of all time.⠀ ⠀ We have a large collection of NME issues in our studio; stemming back from when we first opened in the 1980's, when it was New Music Express. Obviously, the news breaking yesterday that the physical release of the magazine will cease to exist is a sad announcement. Whether you've been a fan of the paper all the way until now, or trailed off somewhere a few years ago, many of us have connected and shared something with NME at some point.⠀ ⠀ We're lucky enough at Underground to meet and talk to countless, brilliant people who contributed to British music. One thing that comes up a lot, are the anecdotes about the beginning of their career tied in with their first feature in NME. Whether it's a young @dennismcevoymorris seeing his photo of Bob Marley on the cover, or the countless bands getting their first feature in the magazine- the feeling of indescribable elation and hope for the future is one that should never be doubted. NME championed British music, artists and voices.⠀ ⠀ Whether you're surprised or not, remember that NME played a big role in British music during it's time.
