Shortly after her 17th birthday, Mary Fedden enrolled at the #Slade, becoming the youngest student at the #art college at the time. “It was very old-fashioned,” she recalled. “Bright #colours were not encouraged.” She learnt to draw, acquiring a great sureness of line and draughtsmanship, but kept her firm belief in colour – influence by the works of Henri #Matisse, Georges #Braque and Ben #Nicholson.
These two paintings go on view from Friday in our #London galleries, as part of Made in Britain.
