Nine-year-old Emine uses a wheelchair after a bomb exploded in her living room in Syria. The blast killed her pregnant mother and severely damaged Emine’s legs and internal organs. Her family fled to safety in Turkey, where they are receiving support from a UNICEF-funded family centre. Three operations later and Emine is still smiling. Her four siblings help her get around and her father, Hasan, does everything he can to support her. “My children and their health are my priority…I can't think about anything else unless they are well," says Hassan. "We have lost our home, our life. We have been through poverty, and been cast here and there by the wind." Emine’s family is a symbol of resilience.
