Hey guys happy Sunday! By now you probably know that every Sunday I donate my social media to my @YearsofLiving team to talk about carbon pricing! Below is a post from Maddy Buchman, a student at Clark University in Massachusetts. “I am studying economics at Clark University and am coming to understand the degree to which capitalism has been misunderstood and is continually misused. Within the capitalist framework, inputs in production are meant to be valued. Only when inputs are given a monetary value can the right level of production be selected by firms. However, our system fails to value environmental inputs through pricing them. Carbon pricing puts a price on emissions and therefore brings environmental costs into the production equation. In this way, the cost of environmental degradation is taken into account when producing rather than ignored and the degradation heaped on the population as unaccounted for social costs.
I am really scared about the implications of climate change that I will face in my lifetime and am frequently at a loss for things to do to combat my feelings of helplessness around climate change. Carbon pricing advocacy has given me something concrete to do to stand up for my future, the present pressing conditions of more marginalized peoples and climate refugees everywhere and the future of our earth mama.”
