I smiled as she greeted this curious reptile with calm curiosity, careful respect and an audible “Hellooooooo handsome” through her regulator. Working on assignment in this marine sanctuary was like swimming through a portal into what the Caribbean looked like decades ago and the crocodiles here are a living symbol of successful ocean conservation. Jennifer, a marine biologist has spent two decades beneath the surface documenting Atlantic shark populations and ancient giant fishes called sturgeons. Her passion is marine conservation with a focus on species that remain on this planet by a thread due to overharvest, climate change and habitat loss. Jennifer, at home in the water from the tropics to the poles, pushes our assignments to include sight, sound and science to strengthen the texture and dimension of storytelling about our changing planet.
