I’ve never been a strong boulderer, even in my fittest of days. This year in Fontainebleau I was climbing as well as I’ve ever had in the forest, not even close to hard standards, but hard for me (in truth I was just trying to keep up with our girl/mom crusher crew ??). Ten days ago, I injured my left hand after grabbing the pocket on this beautiful climb “Pensée Cachée. As an unfortunate veteran of injuries it didn’t feel like a “climb through it” injury and swelled to where I couldn’t make a fist. I pooled my resources and got a referral from the legend @climbermacleod to try and see the famous German climber, doctor and author @volkerschoeffl ... Luckily I married someone who loves to drive, especially fast on the German autoban, so the detour on our way to Switzerland was minimal for our family ????♀️. I’m always blown away by the climbing community, even as the sport grows at a fast pace, it still feels like the same close knit family I started climbing in over two decades ago. Volker squeezed me in today, diagnosed my finger, chatted about mutual friends, and now we’re on our way to Switzerland where I’m looking forward to climbing easy ??. I know climbing is just getting more and more popular (for good reason) but I hope that as it grows, it always maintains this special quality to it. (And thank you again Volker!!!)
