Happy Birthday to the legendary lunatic @captainsensible1.
The Captain is one of the great living definitions of what Punk means to us. He reminds us that it's less about the style - not to say we don't live for his studs, patches and pins- but he serves as a reminder that Punk is an attitude. It's the twinkle in his eye when he's telling you to fuck off, or cheekily shoves someone off a stage. And as one of the most talented musicians and songwriters we've ever heard, he reminds us that Punk is and should be about the music. We've written before that the early Damned albums were so fast they made the Never Mind The Bollocks sound like a waltz album, and their off-stage antics were enough to make Iggy blush- and we couldn't stick by the statement more. He was a vital member of the band that were everything Punk should have been. They were the first to release an album, and the first to tour the US. And if it weren't for the harmonising dynamic of barmy Sensible and the elegiac Vanian, who knows who the Damned would be.

So, more than forty years on from their inception as a band, The Damned have just released their first Top Ten charting album yet: Evil Spirits. Produced by the fabled Visconti- the album is a brilliant surprise to say the least; an outstanding masterpiece to say the most. Sensible's songwriting and mischievousness is as strong as ever. But what we love most is that though the band hitting No.7 in the album charts is a well deserved feat- we can also imagine that Sensible wouldn't give a toss if they peaked the charts or not.

So today, let's all revisit the rebellious teenager in us and get a copy of Evil Spritis in honour of this potty Punk's birthday.
