While roaming the streets of the capital, looking for the hidden little gems that make London, London we couldn't overlook the not so hidden icons. The red telephone boxes can still be found dotted around. They are a nostalgic nod to another generation’s mode of communication and many are listed to ensure their heritage status. The red telephone box was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott (1880- 1960) who won a competition in 1924 sponsored by the Post Office. By 1926, his design, the ‘K2’, was rolled out across London. It has some curious features, including being tall enough for a gentleman to use whilst wearing a top hat! The box’s vibrant colour helped it stand out in London’s thick pea-souper smogs. #HiddenLondon
