The Cardinals announce LHP Austin Gomber and 1B Juan Yepez have been honored as the club’s Minor League Pitcher and Player of the Month for April for their accomplishments on the field.

Gomber, 24, was 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA over four starts at Memphis (AAA). He ranked 8th among PCL pitchers with 27 K’s in April, including a club record 16 strikeouts on April 23rd over 8 scoreless innings. Recalled to St. Louis on April 29th, Austin will make his Major League debut when he makes his first appearance with the Cardinals.

Yepez, acquired from the Braves in exchange for Matt Adams, batted a Midwest League-leading .438 (32-73) with 18 RBI to go with 10 XBH and a .494 OBP at Peoria (A). The 20-year-old, Venezuela-native has hit safely in 17 of 21 games with 12 multi-hit efforts and batted .582 with runners in scoring position.
