How to stand out in a galaxy full of “Star Wars” fan art? For Japanese graphic designer Yuki Shibaura (@shibaura_sw), the answer was kirigami, a style of origami that involves cuts and folds. “I was 7 years old when I saw the first ‘Star Wars’ movie in theaters with my father,” says Yuki, who’s been making “Star Wars”-inspired papercut art for 10 years. “When the remastered versions came out 21 years ago, I understood the story more and became a big fan! I love Obi-Wan Kenobi — I’ve been doing Obi-Wan cosplay and learning lightsaber moves.”
Today, Yuki is headed to Tokyo to celebrate all things Star Wars: “May the Fourth is a fun festival day with my fan friends,” she says.
#MayThe4thBeWithYou, Yuki. Always.
