Authorities said 10 people—many of them students—were killed on Friday when a student armed with a shotgun and a .38-caliber revolver opened fire in an art class on the campus, southeast of Houston. Ten others were wounded in what Gov. Greg Abbott called “one of the most heinous attacks that we’ve ever seen" in Texas schools. The suspected shooter, identified as 17-year-old Dimitrios Pagourtzis, was booked into the Galveston County Jail and held on a capital murder charge. Friday's shooting comes just over three months after 17 people were killed in the school shooting in Parkland, Fla., which ignited impassioned pleas from student survivors and mass protests for tougher gun control restrictions.
