The granting of the accolade ‘The World’s First Super Club’ is not really within our remit . The title might fall to The Torch in Stoke, the Northern Soul club that opened in the sixties and closed a decade later . It might fall to clubs in New York or Paris. But amongst the contenders has to be the Hacienda. Of course it being in our home town it would get our vote as the worlds best. Opening its doors for the first time 36 years ago today it was unlikely that anyone predicted its importance and place in music and clubland history . Playing host to no end of bands (The Smiths, The Fall, Echo and the Bunnymen, New Order, Happy Monday’s, Madonna even) and famous and infamous club nights it stood firm until its closure in 1997. At one time our studio was a minute around the corner from the Hacienda . One of our shoes carried the name Hacienda for a brief time and our Whitworth shoe is in honour of the Manchester street that was home to the Hacienda and other clubs including the Twisted Wheel and the Ritz . Thanks to our homeland for the history memory and inspiration. Just one regret . Our founder is still waiting for his membership card to replace the temporary one from 1982. #BenKelly⠀
