@kellyclaes3 (#3 in the video) has three professional beach tournament titles and helped @uscbeach to consecutive NCAA titles in 2016 and 2017 on the sand. She won the 2016 World University Games gold medal. This week she is not pounding the sand, but rather moving on Sport Court using her hands in the Sitting Division of the USA Volleyball Open National Championships. Earlier this year she was invited by U.S. Women’s Sitting Team Assistant Coach Jon Aharoni to try sitting volleyball at the Wave Volleyball facility in Southern California. Claes said: “I went down to San Diego and I absolutely loved everything about sitting volleyball. I met a lot of the players and we are friends now. It is an amazing game.” She was invited to play in the Sitting Division of the #USAVopen by Patrick Young, who plays on the U.S. Men’s Sitting Team. “I am just trying to get as involved as I can because I love what they are doing. I think beach and sitting volleyball needs to grow more. I think this is an amazing event. I think we can both help each other.” Claes feels the sitting game will also help her beach game in the long run. “I think the biggest thing about sitting is everything is about reaction. Everything is so fast. The ball is faster. The court is smaller. The net is lower. Everything is really fast. Reactions, for sure, will translate into my beach. It is great cross-training, and it is volleyball. I love every form of volleyball.” #humansofvb
