On the miracle of perspective. We headed back to a coffee shop that’s a little out of the way but one we enjoy. Upon walking in, we were greeted with the most unfriendly glare from the barista who looked incredibly bothered to have to come out from the back office to make a drink. We still smiled, placed our order and tipped just the same as we would any other day. I noticed that for each person who came in, the same manner was brought forth by the barista. Annoyed, harsh tones and just rude. Perhaps that is why no one stayed and we were the only ones in there after awhile. I found it all odd more than anything else. One thing that stood out was how much sound echoed in there with it being practically empty, so at some point we couldn’t help but hear the phone conversation that the barista was having with what seemed to be a local government office. I won’t go into details but enough was said where I realized that this woman had a stark reality outside of this quaint little coffee shop. And suddenly the miracle of perspective showed up. Had we not had a glimpse of the hardships that are on her plate, it would have been so easy to walk out of there with a quick snap judgment and size up of her character. Yet now, with more perspective gained, all I could see was strength and resilience and all I could feel was compassion and respect. And I felt humbled as well as grateful for the reminder that we never really know what’s going on beyond the surface. Because who can truly see all the layers within the abyss of a person’s heart? This isn’t to say that we shouldn’t have healthy standards and boundaries in tact in certain situations but perhaps if anything our judgments and our hearts can soften a bit. There is always more than what we can see, than what we think we know. . . . . . #journaling #perspectives #writinglife #franklinchristoph #fountainpens #traveljournal #vagabondnotebook #tnlove #jacquihandbags #jacqui #woodandfaulk #whatsinmybag #shotonmoment #momentwide #momentgear #thisisground #tigmod #stationerylove #journallove #plannergeek #midorilove #loveforanalogue #livemoremagic #creativespace #coffeeshopvibes #abmathome #aquietstyle #seekinspirecreate
