Iraqi-Kurdish artist #HiwaK makes work inspired by political events, chance encounters, oral histories, and his own experiences, including fleeing Iraq on foot in the late 1990s.
In this video, Hiwa K balances a device on his nose, while the narration tells the story of a fictional person, “K,” who walked this same path twenty years ago. This story merges with the artist's own experience as a political refugee.
Hiwa K's work is on view through August 19.
