Apparently it’s #worldotterday which is hilarious. I didn’t know that was a thing! Anyhoo.... in Vietnam a few years ago I went to visit a sanctuary called WAR (Wildlife at Risk) They take in illegally trafficked animals and rehab them, then re-release into protected areas. I had never met an otter before. But LET ME TELL YOU..... I have NEVER experienced more joy out of a creature, more curiosity, more purity- then the otter. I was utterly stunned by them. They immediately reached out to me, they wanted to touch. They really wanted to feel my skin, and me feel theirs. As they held onto my fingers I was tearing up at these gentle beings who at our hands, are hunted for their fur, kidnapped and terrorized. And yet....they still reached out. Literally.
