We have been overwhelmed to receive the most articulate, insightful and heartfelt testimonies about loneliness in Britain today. Our inbox was full within a matter of hours of sharing the post. We’ve now logged and cleared all entries, so if you feel compelled to call, please do so. I am so deeply passionate about bringing awareness to this topic and these messages are the bedrock of this project. I would like to extend a huge thanks to everyone who felt brave enough to call and beat the stigma around loneliness. Together we can use our voices to create a new narrative. We want to know, do you feel lonely? Why? Are you able to talk about it? If not, why not? Do you think there is a taboo surrounding the issue? Perhaps you have ideas for solutions? What can we do to feel less lonely? Why is it such a prevalent issue today? These submissions will contribute to a documentary about loneliness. Loneliness is a silent and invisible epidemic affecting millions of us. While social media provides the tools for us to in theory be more ‘connected' than ever, many of us feel completely alone. Britain is the loneliness capital of Europe. With 9 million people reported to have experienced some form of loneliness in 2017, this year the government appointed a ‘Minister of Loneliness’. In the UK, it is one of the last remaining taboos. While conversations about mental health, anxiety, depression, have progressed in recent years, few of us admit to feeling lonely. However, loneliness is often a contributing factor to these issues. This short film offers a chance to start a conversation around the issue. We have set up an answer phone where you can leave anonymous voicemails about your personal experiences with loneliness. Please note, UK entries only. You will NOT be contacted but your submission may be used anonymously in the documentary. Artwork by @vicky.neefs
