The Dow is on track to post an 8-day losing streak, its longest since March 2017. The index has drastically underperformed the broader markets and in particular this Nasdaq (both the Composite and the 100). What's causing this divergence? Boeing alone has been responsible for about ¼ of the Dow’s losses during the index’s losing streak. Add in Caterpillar, 3M, and Goldman, and you have more than half of the Dow’s losses. Just 4 Dow stocks (MSFT, HD, V, DIS) are mustering up any gains during the index’s losing streak. On the flip side, the Nasdaq 100 is up 1% over the last 8 sessions and about half of the index’s stocks are up during that time. Gains by Nasdaq 100 heavyweights Facebook, Netflix, Alphabet and Amazon are certainly propping up the index. The latest on markets, at the link in bio.
