The new Giacometti Institute is now open in Paris. The space will be dedicated to exhibitions on Alberto Giacometti, and to art historical research and pedagogy. The institute will also permanently present a reconstruction of the artist's studio, as he left it in 1966.

The inaugural exhibition explores Giacometti’s friendship with the writer Jean Genet. The two first met in 1958, when Genet sat for Giacometti and wrote an account of the artist’s studio. At the opening last night, Patti Smith sang and read from Genet's texts, and honored World Refugee Day.
