Repost from @justinbaldoni - This is not a political post. This is a human post. This is not an attack on one man or an administration but a plead for compassion and change. I’ve been away from the news for a few weeks and have been so sad reading all that’s happening. I’m so sorry this post is late. I love America so much I’m so grateful to be a citizen. I’m grateful for the men and women who serve our country, for all who have died for our freedom, for the police, and for the government who does its best to protect us… but what is happening to children at our borders is simply unacceptable. Even with the new executive order, we need to make sure the families and children will be REUNITED and not just thrown in prisons permanently. All of us here in the United States have won the lottery by either being born here, having our families bring us here, or having the means to come here ... most of us legally. And of course I want everyone that comes into our border to come through the proper channels but unfortunately that isn’t always feasible and everyone situation is different. Families, women and children - entire towns are fleeing wars, domestic abuse, violence, arranged marriages, famines genocides you name it… These are not drug dealers and rapists. The majority of these people are just like you and me- with no other options just trying to create a better life for themselves and their children. We are failing our children and we are failing our moral duty as a nation.. If you haven’t, please take a few minutes and read, and then take action. Always take action. We can NOT allow the politics of adults to victimize children. Ever. No matter what. And there is NO such thing as other people’s children. Children are children and the most beautiful gift we have.
