For my Olympic Day post, I thought I’d take a little bit of time to share with you some of my favorite things and memories, the ones that not everyone gets to see while actually watching, to express my gratitude for EVERYTHING the Olympics and what they stand for has done for me.
1. This was right after I had made the team for the first time in 2012 in the 100 backstroke. My mom and Aunt had completely decorated my room so when I got back from finals last night I walked into this❤️?? 2. It’s not everyday that you get to learn from and swim with your greatest idol since you could remember. Being on an Olympic team with @nataliecoughlin will forever be one of my greatest honors.
3. Many of you saw Kara and I get our tattoos in Touch the Wall, but one of the most special things to me was having my number one since day one there with me, @abzcut. She never did ANYTHING but support me with her whole heart and soul, and I am so undeserving of friendships like hers.
4. Every. Single. Moment. With this absolute goofball and the best Olympic roommate I could ever ask for. @cierrarunge made me laugh every minute of every day that we were at camp, and I am beyond grateful for her bright light✨
5. The PEOPLE. Through and through. You will never find better. Simple as that.
6. This was one of my absolute favorite moments from 2016. I captured this moment as @gregmeehan and @lia_neal watched @swimone13 receive her gold medal. They were both crying with pride and it is one of the purest moments this sport has ever given me. This is what the Olympics is about.
7/8. Coming home from Rio I was an emotional roller coaster. I was so beyond disappointed in myself and had no idea what to expect upon my return home, as I knew it would be very different than in 2012. My sweetest neighbor had all the children in Heritage Greens spend the afternoon making signs and paper hearts to put all over my lawn. Coming home to this outpour of love is still indescribable to me.
For these memories, people, and all the others, thank you to the Olympics, for all you have done?
