Photograph by @simoncroberts. A priest waits at the rear gates of the Anchiskhati Basilica of St Mary, the oldest surviving church in Tbilisi, Georgia. It belongs to the Georgian Orthodox Church and dates from the sixth century. In the distance, across the Mtkvari River, is one of Tbilisi’s most contemporary buildings, the music theatre and exhibition hall created by Italian architects, Studio Fuksas. The project has been ongoing since 2010 and is scheduled to complete later this year when work on the interiors is finished. The building comprises a pair of flared, tubular structures clad in a tessellated pattern of steel and glass panels, one of which can be seen here. The building is part of an architectural renaissance, which has taken place over the past decade.
