Initially we visited Deadvlei in the evening, but when we realized the morning shadows would silhouette the trees we knew we had to come back. We arrived early and waited for the sun to come up and position the shadows at the perfect spot. The tree skeletons that stand in the clay pan among the dunes are hundreds of years old. It is a truly surreal place, and the unique shadows caused by the towering dunes only add to the other-worldly feel. —
