Best known for being in girl group #FifthHarmony, @ノーマニ・ハミルトン spent six years in marathon recording sessions and on grueling world tours before the quartet announced an indefinite hiatus last March. “It wasn’t necessarily a decision that we had planned,” she explains. “We just felt like we owed it to each other to get in touch with ourselves individually.”

For the Atlanta-born, New Orleans–bred singer, that meant launching a solo career marked by a late-’90s/early-2000s R&B sound. She signed with Keep Cool/RCA records in April and is currently working on her first album, but she admits being in full control has its challenges. “It definitely gets stressful, because it’s just me at the end of the day.”

Still, the 22-year-old is eager to show fans a new side of herself, one that not even she knew existed.
