A shaggy Icelandic horse below Eyjafjallojokull Volcano | photo by @salvarezphoto Iceland is an island of serious micro-climates. A combination of ocean currents, the jet stream and big mountains mean that the weather can change in just a few miles. “Dawn” at my hotel that morning was a blanket of grey rain leaking from the sky, but just a few miles away in the shadow of Eyjafjallojokull Volcano the weather was remarkably different. Sun and clouds competed for the morning sky above this horse’s pasture. The light didn’t last long but while the sun shone things looked spectacular.
